West Coast Eagles: A Club Built on Success and Resilience
The West Coast Eagles are one of the most successful and recognisable teams in the AFL. Founded in 1986, the club quickly stamped its authority on the competition, becoming the first non-Victorian team to win a premiership in 1992. That victory signalled the rise of a powerhouse that has since delivered four AFL premierships (1992, 1994, 2006 and 2018) and established a fiercely loyal supporter base across Western Australia.
Playing their home games at Optus Stadium in Perth, the Eagles regularly attract some of the largest crowds in the league. Known for their professionalism, powerful game style and commitment to excellence, West Coast has produced some of the AFL’s most iconic players, including Glen Jakovich, Peter Matera, Ben Cousins, Dean Cox and more recently, Luke Shuey and Nic Naitanui.
The club’s rivalry with Fremantle in the “Western Derby” is one of the AFL’s fiercest, capturing the imagination of fans and showcasing the passion of WA football. While the Eagles have enjoyed more success in the derby, every clash with the Dockers brings drama, intensity and high stakes.
Beyond the field, West Coast has become a model of stability and strength in the AFL. The club invests heavily in community programs, grassroots development and player welfare, ensuring its influence extends far beyond wins and losses.
For Eagles fans, the blue and gold isn’t just a uniform — it represents resilience, pride and a tradition of success that continues to inspire a new generation.
