Government Spending Gone Wrong
In this episode of The Court of Public Opinion, Jeremy Cordeaux calls the Labour government‘s spending policies reckless and shortsighted, arguing they are damaging the economy. He believes their spending is exacerbating the nation’s economic issues. “It’s like throwing fuel on the fire of inflation,” Jeremy remarks, pointing out that the government’s obsession with spending without a clear, long-term plan is driving inflation.
Jeremy argues that rather than stabilising the economy, the government’s approach is making life more expensive for Australians. “The government is spending like there’s no tomorrow, but it’s us who have to deal with the consequences—higher prices and higher taxes,” he states. According to Jeremy, this unrestrained spending is particularly harmful when paired with rising electricity costs, which ripple across all industries.

Economy Woes : Put Blame on the Reserve Bank
Jeremy also takes issue with Labour’s criticism of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), suggesting that the government is unfairly blaming the institution for the current economic situation. “The Reserve Bank is trying to control inflation, but it’s the government’s policies that are making things worse,” Jeremy says. He argues that while the RBA is tasked with managing inflation, it is not responsible for the root causes—those stem from the government’s policies.
“The media refuses to put the blame where it belongs,” Jeremy notes, criticising the media for not holding the government accountable for its part in worsening economic conditions. He believes that the government is deflecting responsibility by attacking the RBA, when in reality, its own decisions are driving inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.
Electricity Costs Fueling Inflation in the Economy
A major focus of Jeremy’s critique is Labour’s push for renewable energy, which he claims is leading to skyrocketing electricity costs. He links the rise in energy prices directly to inflation, arguing that it’s putting extra strain on households and businesses alike. “The cost of living didn’t go up by itself; it’s because of their obsession with renewables,” he states emphatically.
According to Jeremy, while renewable energy is a noble goal, the government’s aggressive push for it has driven up electricity prices across the board, making everything more expensive. This, he argues, has contributed significantly to the economic difficulties many Australians are now facing.
